Welcome to a time when efficiency is the driving force! Take a – break. Pausing creates a space that opens up new perspectives. During a 355 km bike ride, breaks were taken in a strict grid (every 5 km). The emerging space for pausing was captured photographically.
STory
Welcome to a time in which efficiency is the driving force. It's not just the world of work that is geared towards performance and increasing productivity; our free time is also constantly being clocked up. The oversupply of possible activities, the unstoppable scrolling through our social media channels and the resulting feeling of constantly missing out are the reasons for an increasingly fast-paced society. The result is a collective, but also personal breakdown. Stress, excessive demands and burnout are the consequences. This project highlights the opportunities of taking a break, because only by stopping and pausing does one have the space and time to reflect on what has happened. It opens up the opportunity to look left and right and determine how and at what speed you could change course.

Take a break.

I did an experiment as part of the project. I cycled a 355 km route and took a break according to a strict grid - every 5 km. I recorded what I experienced, saw and felt in photographs. The result is recomposed in this book and accompanied by a scientific contribution on the subject of “Pausing in performative art and photography”.
EXHIBITION
The project was exhibited at RUNDGANG 2024 at the Berlin University of the Arts. The 5 km photo series was displayed in the stairwell. Viewers were accompanied audibly by texts from the publication.
